:: Maternity Session With Elaine & Wei Kiat

Our close friends Elaine and Wei Kiat are expecting their first baby and I was delighted when they asked me to do a maternity session for them. They didn’t want the typical cliche photos, so I opted to do more of a lifestyle session with them. The weather was perfect and we made good use of this beautiful Vancouver summer day. Here’s a few photos from the session:

:: Maternity Shoot with Philana & Albert

Today I did a maternity session with a lovely couple expecting their first child. Philana and Albert were the winners of my facebook launch campaign contest and I was very excited to work with them. Philana was approximately 7 months old and this is great stage in the pregnancy to do maternity sessions as you’re “popping” enough, yet you’re still able to move around and pose without too much discomfort.

Often when working with clients I’m flexible with the location where we do the session. Sometimes they prefer a studio, on location or the comfort of their own home. This session was done at their apartment and wanted to do some editorial style maternity photos in addition to the traditional keepsake style poses. They were very accommodating with my requests including moving furniture around to create the best lighting and environment for the scene. Here’s a few photos from the session:

Congratulations Philana & Albert on the new baby and all the best on this exciting new chapter of your life!

:: Bubba’s Crib

After weeks of online shopping, days of painting and hours of procrastinating, we have finally completed decorating our baby room. It is fitting to see it all come together, because tomorrow we get to see our little ninja in “4D Ultrasound” for the first time and will be able to make out her features and hopefully will get a good look at her. She’s been extra busy doing somersaults, swinging on Tash’s rib cage like a monkey and practising her punches and kicks with Tash’s organs.

Decorating the baby room was a nice little project that gave Tash and I the opportunity to squeeze in some bonding time together since we’ve both had very hectic schedules with work and travel. After weeks of looking, we finally settled on an owls theme. There was no science or reason for the choice… they were just so damn cute! Our aim was to make the room as bright and colourful as we could because it doesn’t get direct sunlight.

The most painstaking part of the process was painting the pin stripes on the walls. In our haste and excitement to see the finished product, we ripped off the tape as soon as we could. We soon realized that the colours were too close to each other so there wasn’t a proper distinction between the stripes. So much for trusting the paint chips! We had to re-tape the whole thing again and start back at square one, only this time using a darker paint. If anyone is looking to do pin stripes with paint, I highly recommend Frog Tape. That stuff is amazing and you don’t get ANY bleeding with the paint.

So after all the hard work we were faced with the toughest job of all… convincing our dogs Candy and Jasmin that this room wasn’t theirs! They seemed to make themselves quite at home immediately! Anyway, check out the finished product…

:: Mattias & Tiago Photoshoot

Over the Easter weekend I had the opportunity to do a baby photoshoot of 8 day old Tiago and his older brother Mattias. It was a really fun shoot to do because I used some props to create a cotton cloud effect and both the kids were extremely photogenic and played to the camera. I was planning on doing a shoot with some giant easter eggs placed around the kids but I’m sure I wouldn’t have been able to take 5 photos before all attention was lost to the chocolates!

Here’s a little photo montage video that I created for them:
