:: Video Productions & Photography

Often when I complete a photo shoot I like to put together a short slide show or video to summarize the final product. The use of motion can help enhance the general mood of a photograph. Something as simple as a slow pan and zoom can bring a photo to life. Being accompanied by the right choice of music can set the energy level and mood of the montage. In the near future, I  believe that traditional print sales will start to slow down in favor of electronic delivery.

Here’s a short video that I made from the photo shoot that I did with Tash.  It has a mixture of time lapse photography, stock videos and the photos from the shoot that we did in Gastown. Check it out and let me know what you think! Make sure to click on the higher resolution stream to see the HD quality version:

:: Commercial Town – Kia Sportage Advertisement

Vancouver is the third most filmed city behind New York and Los Angeles. Quite often I’m faced with detours and road blocks due to parts of the downtown core being used as part of a film set. The other day I was stuck for 20 minutes in my apartment complex’s driveway because they were filming a Kia commercial. It was an advertisement for the Kia Sportage 2011 model and the first scene where the car accelerates at the start is filmed right in front of my apartment!

You can see all the usual iconic landmarks of Vancouver such as Granville and Burrard Bridge, the Art Gallery etc. It’s so cool being able to recognise all these places being filmed in the city that you live in… Check out the full ad:

:: The Tip Of the World

It’s not often that I blog about something I’ve seen elsewhere; but on the rare occasion I see something amazing I do it. Artist Dalton Ghetti’s tiny sculptures carved out of the fragile tips of pencils have truly knocked my socks off!

Dalton’s technique makes the work even more interesting, as he refuses to work with a magnifying glass, and only uses three tools – a razor blade, sewing needle and sculpting knife. He explains his process: “I use the sewing needle to make holes or dig into the graphite. I scratch and create lines and turn the graphite around slowly in my hand”

:: Vancouver City – Inner City Life

A couple of local photographers by the name of Dan and David Newcomb created a series of time lapse videos of Vancouver city and now it has become a viral video on youtube. For those of you who don’t know what time lapse videos are; basically a series of photos are taken at a specific short interval and then those photos are played back at a certain speed to create a “video”. The interval between photos and the frames per second playback will determine how smooth the video plays back. The result is a “fast forward” video that shows a series of events in a compressed time frame.

Check out their video below and make sure you click the button to watch it in HD and fullscreen mode:

:: Wanna Buy Some Land? – Glengarry Glen Ross

Today we went to see Glengarry Glen Ross at my work place – the Stanley Theatre. I have always been a huge fan of the sitcom “Will & Grace”, so being able to see Eric McCormack in the flesh was extremely exciting for me.

Wanna buy some land?

“Tough times call for tough measures in a Chicago real-estate office. In this cutthroat world, four hungry, backstabbing salesmen peddle questionable investments in a contest to become top dog. Slumping sales? Can’t close the deal? You’re fired! David Mamet’s explosive masterpiece of workplace power struggles gone awry is executed with poetic flow by the cast without a beat missed.”

Me with Eric McCormack

With my absolute favourite theatre actor: Vince Gale

another cast of GGR: John Pyper Ferguson

Most talented Josh Epstein from: The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and The Producers.

We were lucky enough to personally meet Eric and the rest of the crew after the show and I was so ecstatic! Eric himself was such a humble genuine person which made the experience that much more special for me.

If you get a chance to check out the show, you will not be disappointed…!

:: Photoshoot with Jeff Bryant from The Human Statues

Jeff Bryant is a extremely talented musician who is part of a duo called The Human Statues. Just coming off the theatre musical circuit of “Buddy”, Jeff wanted to do a solo shoot with his baby guitar on the beach where he’s most at home. We chose the Spanish Banks beachfront as the location for the shoot. It was a very casual session, basking in the beaming sunshine while he jammed away. I think we even managed to come away with a new single with through his free style jamming!

As with most shoots, lighting is a key factor, and unfortunately when shooting on the beach, the glare from the sunlight can be blinding. Jeff did a great job trying to battle the ray being beamed into his eyes from the giant reflector that Tash was assisting me with. Great job “Squinty”…

:: Photoshoot with Tash @ Gastown

I’ve been meaning to do a shoot in Gastown for a while now, so this weekend I headed out with Tash. The idea was to use the iconic steam clock as the backdrop for the shoot, but it was too crowded so we had to find another location. While looking for a suitable spot I stumbled across this gem of a location. The whole shoot was done with available light (at 10pm). The alley way had so much character with the red brick walls, paved paths and vintage lights that you would find in a cowboy movie. Tash worked the camera well and braved the onslaught of mosquitoes. Overall I’m extremely pleased with the results of the shoot.
